Even though I studied Biomedical Sciences, everything related to informatics has always been of great interest to me. During my master’s dissertation, my hobby started to converge with my studies: I had the chance to work on a bio-informatics topic in the CompOmics group. My initial plan was to pursue the Master in Bioinformatics, but when the opportunity came up to apply for an FWO-SB grant, and as such to continue my work in the CompOmics group as a PhD student, I had to take the chance.
Since January 2018 I am officially working as an FWO-SB PhD fellow in CompOmics, under supervision of dr. Sven Degroeve. My research mainly involves applying Machine Learning to proteomics data, with a focus on the identification of phosphorylated peptides.
